Beer Bars - Where to Hunt for Beer
This page intends to be an online resource for beer hunters
who are looking for a "beer bar" -
a pub (or restaurant) that caters to those who appreciate
and want to experiment with quality beer.
Happily, an increasing number of pubs and restaurants are starting
to treat their beer selection and handling as an important feature
that draws business. I see this as a trend here in the Washington
DC area, and I hope that it is the case in other cities and
regions. In order to keep this list focussed and finite, the
criteria for listing here will be clear and quantitative. Some of
my favorite local watering holes with excellent selection don't
make the cut (though you'll find them on my
link list).
A beer bar, for the purposes of this page, is a
bar, pub, restaurant, or other eating/drinking establishment
open to the public that sells and serves 100 or more
different labels and/or styles of beer. The beer can come
from bottles, cans, or taps. I'm not going to over-qualify
whether the beer is from a microbrewery, home brewed, commercial
brewery, imported. However, there is an implicit expectation that
the beer served comes from at least three different source
breweries ... this is not a listing of brewpubs or large
commercial breweries with tasting rooms.
A list like this can only be maintained with the help of other
beer hunters and beer fans. I just don't get out and around
enough to try to keep this complete or up-to-date. If you
know of other establishments that belong here, or if you have
corrections, updates, or just comments about this page in general,
please
let me know.

qualify it for my list, but someone told me in 2002 that this is the best

A friend mentioned two places in Bruges, Belgium that are worth
looking into. I haven't researched this further, so I have no
links for you, just the names. One is a restaurant, called Den
Deiver. The other is a beer bar, called Erasmus.
