Rob's Beer List - Notations
Here are the abbreviations and notations that I use to shorthand
what my experice is with a particular beer, what kind of container it
came out of, or where I obtained it.
ABV
Alcohol by volume.
BOCD
Bottle conditioned. This beer underwent a final fermentation
in the bottle.
BOTW
Obtained from Beer on the
Wall.
CAN
This taster came from a can instead of a bottle or a tap.
CC
Cask Conditioned.
CICOO
"Consumed in Country of Origin" ... I was there, in the country.
You might not find an importer of this particular flavor or color
here in the U.S.A.
DRAFT
This taster was a draft, pulled from a keg or cask, on tap.
D2GD
"Drink this to Get Drunk" ... Not for the taste. A beer which I
did not find very impressive or intriguing. I don't condone the
consumption of excess quantities of alcohol for the sole purpose
of getting drunk. However, if you are looking for something to
drink because it contains alcohol (and hopefully is inexpensive),
and not for the taste, here is a candidate.
DVCFB
"Don't Visit the Country for this Beer" ... In a word, I wasn't
very impressed with the drink. Of course, you will find entire
regions of the world (like Central America) that get this notation
from me because I really don't enjoy light flavorless beer.
EBC
European Brewing Convention. A beer color indicator.

L and SRM.
IPI
"I Poured It!" ... unfinished. Usually, this is reserved for a
really foul-tasting sample. I hate to waste beer, even mediocre
beer, so the taste of it really had to make me want to hurl if I
gave it this distinguished marker.
L ..°
Lovibond: A beer color indicator.

EBC and L.
MOTE
Obtained from
Malt of the Earth Microwbrewed Beer of the Month Club,
either as a regular selection, or as a special order.
NA
Non-alcoholic. Because there are times when everyone needs to
give the drinking a break. I had one of those times, and an
opportunity to taste a bunch of NA beers. They are, for the most
part, not as good as the real thing, but if your choice is an
NA, or a soda ... you might want to choose one of these.
NLBA
"Not Liked by All" ... This may be a beer that has an unique or
usual flavor that may not appeal to everyone, even those who
ordinarily enjoy this type of beer.
SRM
Standard Research Measurement A beer color indicator.
See
for more information. See also
L and SRM.
YY
"Very Yeasty" ... often a characteristic of bottle-conditioned and
high alcohol content brews. I happen to like a yeasty-tasting
brew, but your tastes may differ.
